The Open PNT Industry Alliance today submitted a letter to the FCC in the Notice of Inquiry entitled “Promoting the Development of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Technologies and Solutions” (WT Docket No. 25-110).
The letter was submitted in response to the FCC’s stated objective “to build a record on specific actions it can take to support government and industry efforts, and to encourage the development of robust and reliable PNT technologies and solutions.”
In the letter, OPIA reiterated its long-held views that the resilience of the United States’ GPS-dependent critical infrastructure requires multiple forms of PNT rather than a single national backup. Furthermore, the coalition stated that it is the government’s role to help critical infrastructure owners adopt the alternative or complementary PNT technologies that are best suited to protect their respective operations.
